Question:
Is it possible to take the A level course without taking the AS level course for the same subject?*
For example, say I wanted to take A level Physics, first I would have to take AS level physics?
Explanation:
Hello, if you are unfamiliar with AICE classes they are high school classes (that give college credit) taken by students pursuing an AICE Diploma, similar to IB students and their IB Diploma. I got accepted to an all AICE school, meaning all of their students take AICE classes because those are the only classes that they offer. The schedule that was assigned to me was:
AICE English Language 1 (AS)
AICE Mathematics & Mechanics (AS)
AICE Chemistry (AS)
AICE US History 1 (AS)
AICE AICE Spanish Language 1 (AS)
AICE Thinking Skills (AS)
I didn’t know the difference between AS and A level courses so I searched them up and now I understand them except for one little thing. So, it is not possible to take the A level course without taking the AS level course for the same subject?
Say I wanted to take A level Physics, first I would have to take AS level physics?
Thanks!
Hi! I’ve taken pretty much all the classes you have listed in your schedule so I know what you’re dealing with. Basically, take AS Physics! Do not, under any circumstances skip the AS Level, specially math and science. Eventually you’ll end up having to take the AS papers anyway to get the full credit.
This is just extra information on those classes in class you were wondering
AS English Lang. Is wonderful! If you love English, this is great. It is a lot of work though and Paper 4 will mess you up a bit.
AS Mechanics and Mathematics: I haven’t taken it I don’t think my school offers it so I wouldn’t know. Assuming I’m horrible (maybe decent) at math and IGSCE ruined me, this may be a bit difficult if math isn’t your strong suit. Or maybe my teacher was trash.
AS Chemistry: okay, this one is hard, not going to lie, it’s hard. But it’s not completely impossible. My teacher was horrible as a human being and a teacher so she did ruin chemistry for me, but it’s not an impossible class.
AICE US History: super slack. One of the easiest if you’re good at history. It is a lot f information but also a lot of common sense.
AICE Spanish: may be a bit bias since I’m a Spanish speaker but this class is wonderful. My teacher was great, it’s interesting, it gets you thinking, you’ll master the language.
AICE Thinking Skills: Paper 2 is incredibly easy, being the English part, because it’s common sense and analysis. Paper 1 depends a lot on how you feel about math, but it’s really just mathematical riddles and whatnot. I personally loved it.
AS = first year, A Level = 2nd year. It’s like saying junior level/senior level, or English III English IV.
