Difference Between Algebra 2/Trig/Pre-Calculus

Is trigonometry typically taught with algebra 2, as its own class, or with pre-calculus? I’m a bit confused because at my school, algebra 2 is titled “algebra 3/4” while there are two additional classes “Math Analysis Trig” and “Pre-Calculus”.

At my school, we are taught Algebra 2 with trigonometry, but we get to the trigonometry section on our second semester. On pre-calculus they expand on the trigonometry. I know because my friend was studying for his pre-cal final and I noticed that he was memorizing the same trig identities and the unit circle, which we learn in Algebra 2, but there was just a few new identities that I haven’t seen. My school doesn’t have a trigonometry class since I think it is all taught in Algebra 2 and pre-cal.

Alright thanks, I’m self-studying Algebra 2 so I guess I’ll add in some additional trig content to learn.

Weird. My school doesn’t offer pre-calculus, and I’m almost certain that’s the same for all of the schools within my area.

The math-sequence you take at my high school is as follows:

Geometry > Algebra 2 > Math Analysis/Trig > Calculus

Ours is similar, except you can either take Pre-Calculus or Math Analysis/Trig at the same level. For reference, we use the Glencoe Algebra II text book.

We take Algebra II/Trig (1st semester Algebra II, second semester probability and Trig) then Pre-Calc. I’m guessing Math Analysis at your school is pretty much the same as Pre-Calc at our school.

Algebra 2 and Precalc curricula vary significantly between school district’s, you should consult your district’s course overview and perhaps ask your counselor or a precalc teacher at your school.

At our school, Alg II is taught first as a standalone course; you then choose whether to take just Precalculus (after which you can only take AP Calc AB and/or Statistics), or dual-enrollment Precalculus and Trigonometry (what I’m doing, after which you can take pretty much whatever math courses you want.) It varies from school to school.
