Difference between an A- and A for ivies?

How much of a difference is there between an A- and an A for ivy league schools?

Surely that depends on the class. If the school was interested in you and is all all else looks good an A- in PE likely more acceptable than that grade in English. Perfect perfection in every dimension doesn’t guarantee admissions. If you focus and cringe on everything you think could be a problem and make you nuts. Schools admit a class and you may or may not be admitted depending how you support the school’s priorities. Even if you did not attend an Ivy your life is not over.

  1. The difference between an A or an A- in one class won’t be the reason you get in or don’t get in to a particular school.

  2. Don’t obsess about the Ivies – they generally have under a 10% acceptance rate. The people I’ve seen most hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus in on a few hyper-competitive schools and don’t get in. If you have the qualifications certainly aim high, but also open your horizons and recognize that there are tons of amazing colleges and universities out there where you can have a great 4 years and get where you want to go in life.

It depends. For schools that do not consider subgrades, the difference is little. Otherwise, it will still contribute to your GPA. If you have half A- and half A, your GPA would be 3.85 which is below the average for Ivy admissions. If you have only a few classes in A- over 3 years other than A, then your GPA would still be around 3.95. They have plenty of GPA 4.0 applicants anyway.
