Difference between August Orientation and June/July Orientation?

I was looking on the website and saw that the August orientation was only $175, while June/July Orientation was $277. is there an explanation for this? Will the students at August orientation not get as much information or something as the June/July students?

It looks like August is only 2 days versus three for the June/July sessions. One less night in the dorm and one less day to feed you.

They don’t have a schedule on line for August so it is hard to tell what it is included and what is not. It could be that it is easier to process the smaller group through everything.

@starrynight20, @gettingschooled, it seems the real question is whether or not you have a worse chance of getting desirable classes/professors in August than you do in June/July. I’ve read that they equally allot portions of classes across all orientations, but then I’ve also read there is a way to scam into a class at a later orientation which you were able to get at the earlier one you were first registered. I.e., if true, there is a sort of “tidal wave” potentially of competition for key classes/profs that grows as people miss on their earlier chances at orientations but then sign into to later orientations for another shot at the classes.

I was told by phone counselor that this is much less of a problem for PII, and even smaller of an issue for PII+DS. Not sure at all about BHP…

They allot a certain amount of classes in the FIGS over each orientation. I don’t think they hold sections that are not designated for the FIGS though. So yes, fewer choices later in the summer. I don’t think that is why there is reduced cost in August though which was the question I was responding to.

As far as BHP and plan II, there are so few students in those programs and special sections set aside for them, I don’t think that orientation date is much of an issue for them except for their non-cohort classes where it will matter.

I have seen speculation that they have found a way to shut down the trick you refer to, but nothing official.
