Difference between Calc and Pre-Calc

How much harder is AP Calc than Honors PreCalc and which topics are covered by which? Are there any fundamental or topic differences between them?

I don't know how to respond the question about the difference in subject matter. Calculus uses other mathematical knowledge, definitely. It is a lot more interesting and fun, to me though. When your teachers would previously say "well..you can't do that." now you can probably do it in calculus. :)

<3

They're entirely different subjects.

I'd say honors precalc is harder than ap calc ab and bc, well in my school anyways. It's probably different in other schools. My H precalc class was just insane, everyone who took the class got an 800 on math level ii.

How can you even compare pre-cal and cal at all.And honors and AP at that.the answer is pretty obvious.

why not charnae91? It just depends on what school you go to. Like I said, my honors precalc was much harder than AP calc.

If it is, it is not suppose to be.AP are suppose to be harder than honors.thats why they are weighted heavier than Honors but I wouldn't know because my school won't start offering honor classes until next year.

ok, i was just asking because our honors pre calc class is insanely hard (40 hour projects in first semester = impossible) and i would probably die if i took ap calc next year w/ 4 other ap classes...any other opinions?

calc: the study of calculus
pre-calc: the study of the stuff before it, hence the "pre"

wat are you taking now?wat grade are you in?

honors and ap are weighted same where i live. Although ap are generally regarded as harder courses.

o and btw. I don't believe ur pre calc gave you a project that took 40 hrs. Sry. (unless it was in class) but yes i agree ap calc plus 4 other ap's will not be fun at all. it will look good for colleges, but you wont have ne fun

Precalc sucks.
It is unrelated to Calculus:
a terrible misnomer.

I had the equivalent of a "C" in Precalc.
This year, I have the equivalent of an "A" in AB Calc.

I do have to say I hate PRECAL.It was all good first semester now it's a kick ***

Pre-calc, is like Algebra II Review + Trig
Calc is all together a new field.

Our pre-calc H was also extremely hard. Harder than Calc AB for sure.

Algebra II Review is the part i like.TRIG sucks!!!

i'm a sophomore this year.

and unfortunately, yes, our precalc project took me exactly 40.5 hours (the teacher was so strict that we had to document the time in a journal to the nearest tenth of an hour >.<)

i had like 5 projects in my precalc class. All took over 30 hours EACH. And only one of them was a group project. I think my last project took me over 50 hours. I had to make a cram book including all the materials I learned over the year.

Except for some trig, calc and precalc are completely unrelated subjects.

The biggest difference in Calculus is the application. It's a whole new way of thinking about math and interpreting problems. In Precalc, the course is meant to reinforce what you learn in Trig and Algebra. Calculus puts those techniques into perspective than just numbers. They actually mean something then. The difficulty of the class depends on the person. Some people find the transition easy, others don't get what any of it means.
