ugh this is really getting ridiculous!

1) there are about 50 million threads about the difference between CC and GS–READ THEM

2) It’s absurd that people continue to post these lies about GS. WE ARE NOT THE NIGHT SCHOOL OF COLUMBIA OR THE EXTENSION SCHOOL. News flash: there is a school of continuing education and IT IS NOT GS!

Non-traditional simply means you took at least one year off from college and did not apply or defer acceptance while in high school. Not everyone at GS is 35. I, for example, am 21 and only took a 1 year gap in my education. If you saw me on campus I doubt you would assume I am in GS. I am not the only one either. There are many GS students who simply decided to hold off on college, pursue a passion and are now at Columbia in their early 20s. Please stop acting like GS is the illegitimate child of Columbia. We take the same classes as everyone else and perform at the same level as any other college student. I would understand if GS students were flunking out of school and bringing the average GPA down, but evidence is quite the contrary. Enough.

Columbia University is a collection of colleges and graduate schools within the same neighborhood which collaborate on academic pursuits and share a common central administration.

Columbia School of General Studies is one of four undergraduate colleges within Columbia University. The others are Columbia College, the Fu Foundation School for Engineering and Applied Science (aka “SEAS”), and Barnard College.

I can appreciate how frustrating it might be to have the legitimacy of your work questioned, but you have to understand how easy it is to make fun of GS. The stereotype is ripe for jokes.
