Okay so I’ve been trying to finish up part II of the application on Brown, however I’ve noticed something… online, there is no word requirement for the personal statement (essay). There is the character length of 6000 or 5000 or something, but it says if it’s longer, you can just attach the essay.
My essay is 800-something words, but fits in the character length. However, when I print off my application to view it, the personal statement says 500 words!!
Do I need to rewrite the essay? :-\ I really don’t want to, I spent ages on this one.

...the definitive answer...Call and find out!

That way, you can be assured that the answer to your question was "official". They people who work there know best of all anyway!

Good luck!

And just my $.02; be careful with 800 words! You do not want to bore the adcom!

Yeah, the limits are different, but just make sure you adhere to the 5000 character limit if submitting online. I believe my essay was around 738 words and 4200 characters.

800 words is not too long, but I would definitely make sure those 800 words are well-chosen. Like alvy says, you don't want to bore anyone.

Thanks soo much for the advice guys, you're making me feel so much better!

Haha I'm a wordy writter :-\ I did have one of the senior english teachers at my school read it over multiple times though, and cut out a lot. It was a very emotional topic though, so I feel the 800 words are necessary. I think?!

And I would call, but they're closed :(

Thanks soo much though, I really appreciate it. I hope I see some of you at Brown next year?!?!
