My son was accepted to Stony Brook and just found out he made University Scholar, but not Honor College. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two? Thanks.

i just received the same notification. I think it means we think you are smart but not smart enough for honors. We get priority registration and some honors level courses and “extracurricular opportunities”. To me, it feels like a consolation prize but hey if you get this that means you were part of the top 7% of the applicant pool so congrats to your son.

Also here is a link to some more information

Likewise, gio1126. The timing is bad, though. He found out he was waitlisted for Macaulay on Tuesday, so any other disappointing news after this means I will have to pick him up off the floor.

Just have to stay positive. Waitlisted isn’t to bad because a lot of people may reject the offer for macaulay. I myself was accepted to macaulay and will most likely not attend. And stony brook is a top 100 school so in any case it is a great school to attend. Im sure things will work out just fine for him. Good luck!
