Difference btwn Canadian and American schools

Hey, I was just wondering, if I get acceptance to U of Waterloo (the best engineering school in Canada) and Georgia Tech (one of the top 5 schools in US for engineering), which school should I choose? Why would Georgia Tech be a better choice than Waterloo, or vice versa?

i went to waterloo, and that place is gorgeous!!! there's a lake close to the school, everyday on campus, you see geese lining up crossing the yards. it's a terrific place where you can easily find a place and do your work and at the same time, there's also many amenities and entertainment minutes away(driving)

Waterloo is a good school :D
don't know aobut georgia tech

I went to waterloo and its the ****tiest place ever ( a view shared by many on campus )

I go to a US school now

go gtech if its for engineering and want a good life

however if you are the studious kind and are more concerned with getting a jobb with microsoft then choose waterloo

its my honest opinion and i was faced with the same dillemma last year ( chose waterloo over hopking in computer engineering )

I am a resident of Vancouver, canada, and from what I know, waterloo isn't a very prestigious/popular institution in the country. Uof T, Mcgill, UBC, and Queen's are top Canadian schools that are 100 times better and more respectable than waterloo. I wouldn't choose waterloo if I were. I think your american choice Georgia Tech is a much better alternative. (by the way, I heard that waterloo's FILLED with asians, the nerdy-math type people, just a thought to keep in mind if you were going there).

Waterloo is solid in AS and CS. That's one thing for sure. Math lovers need not necessarily be nerds. Please keep that in mind.

That wasn't racist at all...

Anyways, I visited Waterloo last year and I didn't like it at all. It seemed like everybody always studied and nobody wanted to have fun...that's just the vibe I got. However, Waterloo does have a great reputation, maybe not in Canada, but around the world, ironically. My dad always wanted me to consider Waterloo because it's a pretty well known engineering school, especially for CS. If you want engineering and want to stay in Canada, definitely choose Waterloo. I have a friend who graduated from Waterloo a few years ago and got into Stanford engineering for grad school. It's definitely well-known.

However, I'd say the top Canadian schools can't even compare with the top US schools. I'd think the engineering in both schools are comparable. If you can, visit them, and that'll give you a clearer idea of where you would be happier.

Also, consider the finances. Waterloo is pretty cheap.

Any Ideas on scholarships for international students at UBC/ Mcgill?

BTW I found the gtsux site quite interesting but I might still apply

McGill has an entrance scholarship where you are automatically considered for a scholarship. The small one is 3k a year while the big one is anywhere from 5k-10k a year.

Georgia Tech is not known for good quality of life. You are better off at Michigan, Illinois or Texas ... and for specific engineering, Wisconsin(ChE) and U of Washington(CS).
