What is the difference in majoring in Computer Science in an Engineering school and Computer Science in a Liberal Arts school. Some schools offer both and I am not sure what the difference is.

At UMich the difference is in the other requirements that go along with it. Computer Science in the engineering school here requires all the Math, Chemistry, Physics, and intro Engineering courses that all the other Engineering majors require. In the Arts & Sciences school (called LSA here), it only requires Calc 1-3. However in the Arts & Sciences school they also have other requirements like English and Foreign language which we don’t have in the Engineering school.

I imagine that at another school where they have a CS program in each school, the difference will be pretty similar to how it is at UMich.

It also depends which department of the liberal arts school that CS will fall in. In many cases, if CS is part of the Math department…you may have to take Calculus III and Differential Equations (two courses that have been removed from CS even from more and more engineering schools).
