Differences between these schools

I am from California and I am narrowing down my college search and I was wondering what the major differences are between:

Syracuse University

Tulane University

UC Santa Barbara

Based on:

Academics

Student/Social Life (+Greek Life)

Area Surrounding

Overall quality of experience (Is it fun, enjoyable, happy place to be)
[5] - Anything else you feel worth mentioning.

I know this is subjective, but I am really curious to hear what you have to say. Thanks so much

academics are what you make of them wherever you go, almost. It ain’t the school, altho these three are pretty good academically.

goretex and goosedown 7 out of 9 months vs. shorts and flip-flops 7-9 out of 9 months. some of the best food in the world (TU) vs. grinders (SU) and fish tacos (SB).

Syracuse and tulane are not in Santa Barbara, CA.

some of the highest percentages of happy students are at SB and TU. Syracuse however has superior men’s basketball.

There are no better sunsets in the US than in SB.

which will cost you more money?

Before you start looking into the intricacies of these schools have you run the Net Price Calculators to see if you can afford them? It does no good to apply and be accepted to a school you then can’t attend.

Syracuse is the nation’s #1 party school, so bear that in mind. Also the city, in my opinion, is not that great, although they do have an amazing mall and a nice zoo.

I don’t know much about UCSB but I have one student at SU and one looking at Tulane.

1) depends on what you are planning to study. SU has a top notch communications school, for instance while TU is more known for sciences/pre-med
2) both school have a vibrant student life and a strong Greek presence.
3) both are in cities rather than “college towns”. The big difference is which do you like better snow or hurricanes?
4) SU is one of those schools that the students don’t like - they love it. They all bleed orange
5) If you are in-state for CA schools, the price difference will be substantial. Tulane probably draws from a larger geographic area while a large percentage of the students at SU are from the Eastern seaboard.

thanks for all the replies, i appreciate your input.

Academic quality can depend on what academic interests you have.
