I looked on the Cornell website and it said that the course requirements are the same, so what is the difference between the biology programs in CAS and CAL. I know that in CAL, you can also concentrate on biochemistry -can you do that in CAS too?

The only difference is in the gen ed course requirements for the colleges themselves. Also, you get a BS from CALS and a BA from CAS.

That and when you are in CAS you are allowed to take many more courses from pretty much any field, but you are also subject to more requirements at the same time.

If you are a NY state resident, the price difference is also pretty substantial.

in CALS you can still take courses from pretty much any field. if you choose to take courses in CAS you can take what you want instead of needing to fulfill requirements.

Well you are limited to 55 endowed credit hours in CALS unless you choose specific fields within majors offered in CALS that lets you take up to around 60. Then again, that’s quite a lot.

if you think about it, 55 credits is like 12-15 classes, which is enough to venture into quite a number of fields (or get to a decent depth in one or two.) given the rather small amount of requirements in CALS it’s definitely possible.
