Differences in Parenting

Anyone here treated differently than their siblings by their parents?

YES. It’s very annoying.

My mom lets my sister do just about anything. The thing is, my sister is autistic, so I don’t think my mom realizes that she treats us completely differently.

My dad treats us about the same though.

But my mom… ugh. It annoys the heck out of me. She lets my sister do anything and I’m always expected to help my sister with things… like get her shoes or socks on, even though she can do it herself, she just doesn’t want to.

My brother gets away with SO much crap it ain’t even cool. Breaking curfew, he totaled a car, getting arrested, damn near getting kicked out of A CC. How the hell do you get academic probation at a CC?!

My parents expect me to do my sister’s homework, even though she’s capable of doing it herself.

Only-child ftw!

Bit of a reverse post to the others.

My brother has actually stated he is jealous of me. He’s considerably older than me (well 5-6 yrs) and when he was in high school my family was my pretty modest. Since then, my mom has risen the career ladder and making together my parents make about $150,000 more than they did back then. So he always throws comments around about how much my parents favor me.

They pay for all of his bills though, offer college, and pretty much offer him the same. It’s just sibling mind set.

Definitely. My sister is four years older than me, and, as the first born, my parents have definitely given her more attention when it comes to school and accomplishments and all. They do try to keep it balanced, but sometimes I feel like an after-thought. Especially now because I’m applying to colleges for undergrad and she’s applying to grad school; she doesn’t even live in the house with us, and my parents are still more helpful to her than me. I kinda understand it, but it can be really frustrating.
