Differences/prefernces for ACT and SAT?

So, I just took the March SAT (absolutely nerve racking waiting for results!), but I'm beginning to think that I didn't do so well on it. I'm planning on retaking in June or October, but now I'm considering taking the ACT, too. Is there any distinct differences between the two? I've heard that the ACT requires more knowledge but is more straightforward than the SAT. Do colleges prefer one test over another? How will a low/average SAT score look if coupled with a higher end ACT score? Is it better to take both of them just for good measure?

Any and all advice is welcomed :) Thanks, guys.

In the end, I’d say focus on one test and spend some time practicing and working through the strategies in the prep books.

They are very different tests but most of the time, people score in the same range as they did for the 1st test ie. if you scored in the 1900 range on the SAT, your score won’t be in the 2200 range (32-34) for the ACT.
