So I've realized there isn't any essay in the Princeton supplement that directly asks for why you want to go to Princeton or what you love about it. However, I've lived in the Princeton area all my life and I've been able to have certain experiences on campus that would reveal not only insight into my character and personality, but also my devotion to the University. I was thinking about writing an essay that described such an experience in my Common Application, but only so I could send it SCEA to Princeton... and then use a different (more general) essay in regular admissions (hopefully I won't have to if, by some stroke of luck, I'll be done in December D: ) Does anyone have any advice or concerns that I should be aware of when attempting to write this essay or sending a CA specific essay solely to Princeton? And, yes, I know to avoid being overly obsequious, that wasn't my intention.

You are applying SCEA to Princeton. Write your CA essay Princeton specific and follow the questions on the Princeton supplement. If you are accepted, great. If you are deferred or rejected, change your CA essay before you apply to other schools.

I don’t think you can do that atypical23. Even if you apply early, you have to submit a minimum of 2 essays: a common app essay and a different supplement essay. To answer your question Decillion, the admissions officers will read whatever you send them, so if you really want to convey your interest you should send a “Why Princeton” essay. A word of warning: because you sent an extra essay, the admissions officers will have higher expectations for it. If it isn’t a good essay, it could hurt you.
