how are you guys calculating weighted GPA? i keep seeing people with, for example:
unweighted: 3.9
weighted: 4.05
yet they have taken like 9 AP courses? how does that work out? and does honors count. thanks so much :)

It depends on the school. In my school no AP/Honor classes are available (except to a select few) at all in Fresh/Soph year. So at the end of your soph year your GPA would be say 3.7 UW/ 3.7 W. Now if you take say 5 APs, that are now weighted ~+.7 then maybe you finish the year at 3.7 UW/4.33 W (though only if you take all weighted courses). But that is only one year of weighting so your weighted GPA isn't going to be incredibly higher than your UW. That's just one example...

Generally, it works like this:

Regular A.......4----------Honors/AP A....... 5
Regular B.......3----------Honors/AP B....... 4
Regular C.......2----------Honors/AP C....... 3

Of course, each school does different things, but from my understanding, that's pretty standard in California and Arizona.

Because of the problems and different weighting schemes, D did not weight so as not to look like you are trying to fudge things. In the end they have your HS record and can see Honors, AP etc. So just use the regular and let the schools enhance it if they want.
