I'm going through and getting textbooks for the fall quarter, and I wanted to ask some current students if they have ever used older editions of requested class textbooks. The older edition books are ridiculously cheap, and I looked inside using the Amazon Online Reader on Amazon.com and the content seems to be the same, but with differing page numbers. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can use older editions as long as your professor says that its alright. For the most part, the different editions haven't changed much. The biggest difference however is the homework problems. Some professors don't mind handing out two versions of homework so that students with the older edition will have the same problems to work on but then there's others that expect you to have the correct edition and won't make a separate list of coordinated problems from older editions.
