So, long story short, my true dream is to study music education (concentration on voice). I’m absolutely terrified of rejection, and while I do believe I have the skills necessary, I’m terrified of auditioning for schools and not getting in for that major. Academically, I’m very strong and don’t doubt my ability to get into my top schools academically (currently, I’m really liking Ithaca, BU, and Fredonia). All 3 also have strong communication/PR major programs, which is my backup major.
Here’s my question: am I allowed to put two majors down on my applciation? Such as, music Ed is my number one choice, but if I’m not admitted to that program, I’d like to be considered for the communications major? Or if I get in academically to these schools but not for that major can I switch to communications?
Another question - could I apply to other schools I enjoy that don’t have music education programs with a communications major instead? So I have those as options as well?
Please help!
Generally you can’t put down two majors, particularly when they are probably in different schools within the college. You have to apply to one or the other. I would send a note to each of the schools and ask if/how that can be done.
