different majors for different UC's. HELP please!

Hey guys!

So I have been thinking about this for awhile and I still have no answers. So please help me out if you can!!

I understand that when applying as a transfer student, in your personal statement you have to write about why you chose your major. What if you have different majors for different UC's? What do you do? Do you write a different essay for each school (is that even allowed!)? Do you write about all the majors. PLEASSE HELP! :)

ooh i'm in the same predicament as you. i have different majors for different UCs.
i'm guessing you just write in a general way that will incorporate the majors, but then it wouldnt be good because they like when you're specific.
lets just wait and see what other people say. i'm curious to know.

ucb and ucla are the only UC's that use the ps in the admissions process, so make sure it is at least tailored to a major you chose at one of those schools. for the other UCs the only factors are your gpa and your completion of lower-div classes

I applied to the following programs back in November:
UCBerkeley - Rhetoric
UCSB - Philosophy
UCSD - Urban Studies & Planning
UCD - Philosophy

So I went through this already. What I did was keep things general, as stated above. I was aware of what sstory is saying, and since I didn't apply to UCLA (I prefer USC), I was able to concentrate more on Rhetoric at Berkeley. Despite this, I never said "Rhetoric" or "Berkeley" specifically, although I think my essays were pretty solid.

In general, there are ways around your problem. You just need to find your own. This is a college admission essay, after all.

Thank you everyone! that helped A LOT. I was afraid I was not going to get any replies! I am a freshmen at community college right now and plan to apply Nov 2009

Berkeley - Public Health
UCI - Public Health
UCLA - Cognitive Science
UCSD - Human Development

I know so many majors -_- I'm pretty nervous about the application process.

i write a different essay for each school - i apply for the major that has the best admit rate of all of the ones i am interested in.

this might not apply to you, though, because i plan on transferring to medical school. therefore, my school matters a bit more than my major...

for example...UCLA'S admit rate for anthropology (i would have a psychocultural and medical subconcentration) is 65%. their admit rate for biological sciences is 21%. because i have the prerequisites, i will of course apply as an anthro major....

right??

that's really clever lizmartissot! I think in the end, I want to apply to medical school too. Having a major in bio science is pretty tough. that's why i opted not to do it...try to score a higher GPA.

are transfer applicants allowed to write different essays?!!

will anthropology cover ALL med school pre reqs? if so, it sounds like a REALLY good plan! i was thinking of applying as a Cog Science major for UCLA. its acceptance rate is like 50%. but i have no idea what the heck Cog Sci is or much about it.

thanks for your input!!
