Different recruiting timetables--Pls Help!

There’s also the weather factor. Could be a tough decision!

Ivy League recruited athlete process. Got letters, calls to HS coach, requests for film, transcripts from 7 Ivy league schools starting about Feb of junior year. I had posted highlight tape with stats on youtube and emailed link to some coaches and used gobigrecruiting.com I sent coaches a couple email updates about test scores or an athletic achievement. Picked a couple clinics or 1 day of a camp to go to in the summer at schools when I could make it. Really tried to be ready and stand out at these. About 200-300 students came from around the country. Was made an offer at the end of that same day, about 10 or so people might get an offer on the day. Picked Ivy I felt was best fit and sent in items requested - one essay, transcript, SAT scores - for an early read by admissions, and financial information requested for financial aid early read. Gave all info directly to coaches only, but received early read decisions from admissions and fin aid depts before end of summer. Submitted full application ED and got acceptance letter in the mail. Hope that’s helpful.

D got a call from the pokey school. Admissions formally accepted her, so the official visit will indeed happen. We’re still not understanding how the pokey school expects to compete for top students with the Ivies and east coast D1’s, both of which offer admissions and money so much earlier than the slow-poke. D can only consider them because of what we had assumed was an unusual arrangement–getting a likely from an Ivy without actually committing. Maybe that’s not really uncommon?

Sounds like your D is a fab prospect…Good luck with her choice/options!

Official letter of acceptance arrived at our house earlier this month so thought I would share our adventure for those just starting out.

We interacted with Ivy, NESCAC and Patriot league schools. Process really began with introductory emails sent to potential schools of interest, fall of junior year. Once season was completed in fall, we began to receive inquiries from other schools for preliminary info.

Jan - March
Filled out online questionnares
Sent resume with 15 minute highlight video
Attended junior days

April - June
SAT/ACT
Unofficial campus visits
Planned summer schedule. (Extremely important)

July - August
Tournaments
Camps

Late August
Committed

In thinking back on the process, from a parents perspective, I feel the most important aspects are the following:
Be very honest with yourself regarding your child’s ability and what level of play is the best fit.
Be objective with regard to the feedback you recieve from each school. Is it genuine interest? Don’t be afraid to ask if you are barking up the wrong tree re: academic requirements.
Plan way ahead regarding test dates, camp opportunities, tournament dates, etc. If possible, attend summer camps at the schools that are high on your list. and have shown at least moderate interest. (I feel this is the best opportunity for coach to assess the athlete’s ablility)

Pet peeves with the process:
Email reponses from coaches was extremely inconsistent. Some great, some horrific.
Can be extremely stressful for the student juggling school work, sports, SAT’s and college search. (We tried to streach it out as much as possible, but still difficult.)
The wait between committing and offical acceptance (3+ months, no likely) also stressful.

Thanks to all pervious CC contributors for the valuable information you provided. It was extremely helpful and oftentimes reassuring. Would be happy to answer any questions going forward for those just beginning the process.

Happy Holidays

^^sleepless…what sport does your son play and did he end up getting a spot at an Ivy, NESCAC or Patriot League school?
