Different umich 2015 deferrals

I got this deferral:

Thank you for your freshman application to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we have determined that we will need additional information in order to make a final decision. We will not re-evaluate your application file until after our regular decision deadline of February 1, 2011. We need this additional information and time to ensure that we give your application the best possible review. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by mid-April.

The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several critical factors taken into consideration in evaluating a student's competitive admissibility. To give your application a final evaluation, we will need your fall semester or first trimester grades. Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, please request to have a PDF of your grades sent from the issuing institution to our office via an e-transcript vendor or to ecredentials@umich.edu, if possible. If your counselor sent the initial Secondary School Record for your application through The Common Application online portal, they will need to complete the 2010-2011 MidYear Report using the same method. Otherwise, please ask your high school counselor to fax a report of these grades to our office at 734.936.0740.

MY FRIEND GOT:

After multiple individualized and comprehensive evaluations of your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2011, we believe that you have something uniquely valuable to contribute to our campus. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date.

WHICH IS BETTER OR WORSE?

I got this:
Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2011. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, it is still good news. Your application is one of a group that remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2011.

Please refer to the website [Office of Undergraduate Admissions: FAQs about the Admissions Process for Deferred Students](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/deferred) for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward your fall semester or second trimester grades when they become available.

I got that one too wthompson11.

I got that one also wthompson11.

Ok which is better

I got the same one as wthompson. That’s so weird that there are different ones! I thought colleges used the same letter for all deferrals

@wthompson11, that one SOUNDS better… but idk

I NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!! hahaha

I got the same…

Got the same one, but mine was for engineering. So, is there a verdict as to which type of deferral is better? So, does it mean that one stands a chance to get in if the next sem grades are better?

I’m not sure which one is better. I got the same one as wthompson11. I’m not going to analyze the differences because I think that’s not a useful thing to do at this point. We’re all amazing applicants. Let’s end first semester with a bang, demonstrate interest, etc., and hopefully UM comes around for us in the regular round.

i gt d same as @wetnoodle

i want to know why there are different letters!!!

I think this is the better one because they are basically saying you have all of the credentials, but they ran out of spots for ea acceptances. If they had more spots, the people who got this letter would probably get in first before they consider those who got the other letter.

Chilllll out

No I think I understood why there are two different letters.
Seems like people with 10 digit UM ID numbers got sent one letter and people with 8 digit UM-ID numbers got sent the other! Count the number of X’s yourself! :)

Umm, what college (Engineering, LSA, Education, Ford School, e.t.c.) within the University did each of you apply to. Each will send out a different one. For example, my engineering one is:

Friend who applied to Ross got the same email as me (the one above)

Longer email is better, we are looking for grades

Shorter one has no explanation, you are just blatantly deffered/denied

Did any EA applicants get flat out rejected? Or did UMich just defer all that were not accepted? I worry about how many people I’m up against during RD…
