Different UVA College Chances

Should I apply to the UVA School of Engineering or the College of Arts and Sciences?
Also, if I get rejected from the SEAS, can I still be offered admission to the college of arts and sciences? I know VaTech does that, but am not sure if that only applies to ED applicants.

I want to be a chemical engineer, A few of my schools are reach. Just wanted to know what my chances are...

My top choices are tied between UVA, UT-Austin, and VaTech

Asian male, Senior in high school.
4.3 GPA

ACT: 26 (didn't send)
SAT: 1860
Chem - 680
Bio - 660

I was signed up to take the SAT this month, but fell sick with a 103* fever the night before, so it was a no go. Most apps are due in the next week or two and it's pointless to take the SAT again and still reach their scores deadlines.

Out of School:
Volunteer for several charities
Tutor for chemistry, biology, physics and history
Intern at a medical clinic

Work 2 jobs:
1.) Helper/assistant for an event decorator (3 years)
2.) I started my own screen printing business(2 years)

In School:
National Honor Society
Science National Honor Society
Democrats Club
Spanish Club
President of Wildlife Club

I feel that my essays are pretty strong, but was on the fence as to whether I should apply to the SEAS at UVA or just their college of arts and sciences. It's been my goal to go there for quite some time now, but I feel that I am not good enough to be accepted into the SEAS. I have the essays written for both the College of A&S and SEAS, it's just a matter of picking one. Chemical engineering is my dream, but if I apply to Arts and Sciences as a Biochem major then it will be hard to find a job plus I don't want to go to med school like my parents desire.

Bump it up

Well I think you already answered your own question. Your dream is to be a chemical engineer, so you should apply to the SEAS. If you’re in state I think you’ll get in. If you’re out of state, I think it would be a reach for you to get into either college, so you might as well apply to the one that will help you get the job you want.

Bumpzow bumpbum bumpity bumpbumpbump

if you’re in-state, you NEED a leadership position. a uva rep came to my school recently and said that since va is so cutthroat and competitive (especially ffx cty, where i live), you not only need good grades and scores (4.15+ weighted, ~1850 sat), but also leadership position to set you apart from others. also, those numbers are the ones she gave me, i didn’t pull them out of my ass. they are average scores/grades from accepted ffx cty students

Follow your heart. If you look forward to a career of chem engineering, then SEAS is a good option. Do you have any other experiences related to engineering and your intended major? A lot of engi schools focus on those sorts of ECs. Still, write essays, and you have a decent shot.
