Difficult decision-urgent!

I'm almost done with my common application main portion and will be submitting it tomorrow. However, for the main essay I have a problem deciding between two essays I've written.

The first describes my family's move to Florida and how it impacted me as a person. It's a well-written essay that was edited by a teacher but I feel like the topic is too cliche or boring...and that this is a common experience that I'm dramatizing?

The second one I only wrote last week and is all about my mother as a major influence in my life. This is an unusual situation and a really personal essay-I can say that it is about a chronic disease she had. I feel like this is not as well written BUT the topic is more effective, though I slightly mentioned it as a "hardship" in my additional info section.

Which would adcoms look more favorably upon? Which would be more influential?

Schools I'm Applying to: Duke, Brown, Cornell, Rice, Emory, etc..

Thank you so much!!!!!!

I’m inclined to say the well written and edited one, but which do you feel tells more about you? I think you could go with the second one if you spend some time bringing it up to level of writing of the first one.

That’s an interesting point-I suppose I focus more on myself in the first essay than the second, which talks more about my mom’s situation.

I was just worried about the topic since moving is not that big of deal to many. But, I developed the idea well so hopefully they’ll look past that.

Thanks a lot!!

However, be wary as the fish out of the water type of essays are fairly common. I scrapped my original essay about moving from Canada because of this.
