Difficult to become a basketball manager?

I am a rising senior, and Duke is at the top of my list of colleges. However, wherever I go to college I want to become a basketball manager as I probably want to persue a career in coaching basketball. How difficult would you say it is to become a basketball manager here siince basketball is so big? I have a great background in basketball, and I am currently a manager for a big school in Texas. I'm practically a mini coach, I help the coach run camps, I'm constantly learning about new things. My coaches would be willing to provide great reccomendations for me. I'm willing to do anything basically.

However, do any of you know if it is just a matter of "who you know", and I would have no shot if I don't have any connections. I would really love to go to Duke, and I want to apply there early decision; but if I don't have at least a decent shot to become a manager, I will have to reconsider my options. If anyone can provide me insight on this situation it would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've talked with a couple of the basketball managers before about what it's like, and the impression that I got was that it's not impossible to become one. They're looking for students who would be able to commit A LOT of time to the program (even more than the players themselves) and pay a ton of attention to detail and promptness and that kind of stuff. You'd probably have to contact the basketball department for specific information, but it is definately obtainable if you have a strong drive for it.

Thank you for that insight. This is very encouraging news. I will for sure get in contact with the basketball department once the school year starts up again.

Just out of curiousity, about how many basketball managers do they have? I know UT has 2 managers for each grade level, so 8 in total. Is Duke similar?

I honestly think they advertise in the Chronicle (our school newspaper) in the fall for both men's and women's teams, and both teams are absolutely incredible so it'll be a great experience either way.

Well if they advertise for managers in the fall, I think taking the initiative to call up the basketball department during my senior year and submit reccomendations along with other things will give me a great chance. I'm probably going to be taking a visit later on during the summer, and I will definitely plan to check it out even further.

Now I'm strongly leaning towards applying ED. Just gotta get those ACT results back now (took it for the first time in June) and hope I get my goal of a 32. If not, I don't think I'll be too far off and I will have time to study up to get to my target for September.
