<p>theoretical question - if a student is assigned to a class where the prof is rumored to be extremely difficult to understand - how do advisors feel about switching the kid out if he/she requests it. My guess would be they wouldn't, but I'm curious</p>
<p>Well… you can always drop a class. There is nothing that anyone can do to MAKE you take a class. But for instance if you really need to take a class that semester (or be put a semester or sometimes even a year behind) and there is only one section… you deal with it. You also won’t get into a class that’s full even if the other section has a crap professor.</p>
<p>But if there are two sections, no conflicts, and no differences in requirements (like honors or not) then advisors usually will switch you if you ask- just like they would switch you if you wanted to change classes entirely. After first semester though, the entire add/drop process is made by you, not the advisor.</p>
