How difficult is computer science/engineering?

Is it possible to get an A with daily studying (like 2-3 hours? but not just sitting in the library all day?)

Of course. It’s possible to do a lot less than that and still get an A. What won’t work is doing nothing at all until the night before the final.

you know that almost no one studies daily. Just go to every class and discussion and PAY ATTENTION, TAKE NOTES and do homeworks and assignments and that will get you an A from any class you take. Also, people get lazy after the midterms.
These are basic things that students know but they just can’t follow them.

I wouldn’t say that doing those things will get you an A in ANY class, but what you’re saying is generally true.

I’m incoming CS and I was wondering how much programming do you learn? Is it just basics of C++ and Java?

Engineering isn’t/wasn’t too difficult for me at UCI. Really, it just comes down to time management. Very few people study for 2-3 hours a day. In upper div, however, many people work on projects and do homework assignments for 6-10 hours a day outside of class. Most of the people who did/do this myself inclusive have not had any problems getting A’s in engineering courses and maintaining an overall high GPA.

Just imagine a 30 page individual project including calculations, appendices, a lot of writing, etc. Now imagine doing that over the course of a week consistently vs. doing that the night before. You can probably get a good sense of who is going to fail out vs. who is going to get an A. That’s just an example from say an upper div lab course. Of course, you will also have assignments/tests/quizzes from other classes on top of that weekly and work + research + social life if applicable hence the importance of time management.

Time management is the key to success!
