Difficulty: AP and SAT II US

Which one is harder? AP or SAT II US
I've done PR tests (SAT) and the REA tests (AP) and i seem to get a lot more wrong on REA (its pretty hard for me).

Personally, I love AP's because they seem to be a lot less formal. I mean, you can get a bunch of questions wrong and still get a 5. Meanwhile, each and every question counts on the SAT II.

From my experiences, it depends on what you're strengths are, because the question styles and even the test format is pretty different.

APs are more general, "think about it" questions, and you also have an essay section to somehow redeem yourself, while the SATII's are more crude fact based, specific, and only MC.

For me the SAT II was a bit more difficult, but others would definitely differ on that.

I got 5 and 720...so I thought AP easier

5 and 750 here.. i actually thought the AP was harder... but that might be because my teacher emphasized MC a LOT because he had poor eyesight and couldn't read essays. er, actually, I was getting like 70/90 on those REA tests like two days before the AP/SAT II, so don't worry too much about getting everything right. Also, theres a neat curve for the SAT II too.

PeaTerGriffin "I got 5 and 720...so I thought AP easier "
I got the exact same scores so I felt the same way

I got 5 and 790, I thought SAT II was rather harder, but I had a ripping cold that day... there are a few completely random questions that will prob. keep most anyone from an 800 (obviously not everyone, just me, lol), but the curve is pretty generous for an SAT II.

I got a 4 and 700, so I don't even know what to think :P

I love free response questions.

I thought the SATII was MUCH easier than the AP test. I flew through it rather quickly. The AP test seemed to have some ambiguity in the questions that made it more difficult whereas the SATII was extremely direct and straightforward.

4 and 740...the sat is a lot easier b/c if y ou dont know an essay topic ur screwed on the ap test

just read sparknotes us history sat II and ur set

i got a 4 and 710, i actually thought the SAT II was harder, and a few of my friends thought so as well. i think it depends on how you studied, because most of my friends didn't bother studying for the sat iis and just went and took it with the AP knowledge.

I agree with MattCarmona that the questions on the SATII are more direct than the AP test ones. The AP test ones require you to really think about it to make sure you are not making a mistake with what it is asking, while the SATII ones are more fact-based. But because of the essays, you can know fewer facts and more trends for the AP test. Both have fairly lenient curves, but the AP test's one is obviously easier. BTW I got 5/800.

Flipsta_G, those are very nice grades. What books did you use?

5/800 here as well. I had an amazing teacher and didn't need a prep book. But I still thought AP was easier simply because you could get the answer by putting the question into historical context. The SAT II was definitely more straightforward, but definitely more random as well.

I agree with Twinkle_Toes. I also had an amazing teacher, but I did use REA's AP prep-book.

I got a 5, 710

A friend got a 4, 780

It all depends on the individual.

5, 730 and then 770. sat II is random and harder, it depends on the test itself since i didn't study for either but my test scores varied.

I got a 4 and a 750. I think AP is harder because the phrasing of the questions seem to be a bit more difficult. I didn't study colonial-revolutionary history, and it ended up being that the DBQ and the first essay question was on that, so I screwed myself over. Overall the SAT II questions are much more straight forward. However, you do get those questions with the graph that asks you trends, and sometimes those are a bit ambiguous. You also get a lot more questions on lesser popular books than the ones talked mentioned in the AP. Overall, I would say those were the only questions I missed (about 6-7) and I ommitted 2, and probably missed 1 or 2 in the middle somewhere. In conclusion, I think you'll come out of the SAT II very satisfied if you've had a good AP US History course.
