Hi, I am trying to think of what major I should choose for SDSU. Does anyone know the easiest major out of Finance, Economics, and accounting. Thanks
Although they share some classes, the degrees can put you on different career paths. Especially Accounting vs Finance/Econ. To go into Accounting or Finance, you need to get into the Business School. It looks like that requires 60 credits with a 2.9 GPA. A 2.9 in college is much harder than HS. For that reason, Econ is the easier to get a degree in. However, Econ is more math heavy. To do really well or at the higher levels, Econ becomes harder.
Easiest major for admission or getting a degree?
Are you Freshman or Transfer? Local or non-local?
Probably Accounting. It seems like the really smart people gravitate to Finance & Economics, while the typical Accounting major is the above-average kid who wants the maximum chance of finding a job. I would still never call Accounting easy per se; you will have to work really hard to master the material well enough to pass the CPA exam (which also requires 150 total hours, approximately 30 more than the undergrad degree requirement).
Accounting major at SDSU is extremely hard. Once you get to the upper level stuff then you do presentations in front of companies and you genuinely need to know your stuff. You can’t just fly by in these classes. SDSU’s accounting program is rigorous because it helps you find a great job after graduation. It is hard to get into and so is finance because the business school is very competitive. Economics is easier to get into but it’s also math and theory based. You probably shouldn’t pick a major bc of how easy it is, btw. That is gonna set you up for a bad time.
Non- local instate. Freshman, easiest for acceptance. I’m overall ok with any of those three degrees, and SDSU is a school I really like.
SDSU admits by eligibility index and major so you need your CSU GPA and test scores to calculate your EI.
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW) or (CSU GPA x200)+ (ACT composite x10). All majors at SDSU are impacted meaning there are more qualified applicants than spots so other than Nursing, acceptance rates may only vary by 10% between majors so there is really no “easy” major for an acceptance. Based on last years stats, Accounting was the most difficult with around a 35% acceptance rate followed by Economics (43%) and Finance (45%).
Target an EI SAT of 4100+ or an EI ACT of 1050+ to be considered competitive but these thresholds are no way a guaranteed acceptance. Much will depend upon the stats of the prospective Freshman applicants for each major.
Best of luck.
