Trying to create UCLA logon ID in order to access financial aid award. Have gone through the entire process repeatedly, but each time we get to the end and click on “create account” we get a message saying “Directory Error.” And, of course, the tech support help desk is now closed until Monday!

And, no, the problem isn’t that we’re choosing a logon ID that’s already taken. We tried using a simple, common name - just as a test - and got the specific error message that the name was already in use. So “Directory Error” clearly means something else.

Has anyone gone through the “Create Logon ID” process successfully? Any chance the system is just overloaded at the moment?

If you have ANY suggestions, please let me know!

It worked for us, but I know that answer is not very helpful!

Well, then I at least know it should be working. That’s a start! :)

Initially, I made a UCLA logon ID before I got my UCLA student ID, so I had the same thing as you. But I remade a new account this time applying as “admitted student” with the student ID and made it work.

When was this account originally made and what did you apply under? As admitted student or the last option which is none of the above?

Just an idea – the admission letter has a 9-digit UCLA Student ID in this format: xxx-xxx-xxx. You need to change it to xxxxxxxxx for it to work.

Yep - changed the ID to nine digits, logged in as “new student,” created the account ID, password, and security question, clicked on “create account” . . . and then got the error message. After several attempts.

And the answer is . . . (drum roll, please!)

If you are writing your own security question, do not use an apostrophe!

No kidding.

WOW! I had the exact same problem. Now I feel betrayed for having to use “partners” instead of “partner’s”. But oh well.
