Has anyone else had difficulty getting the Police Record Check (USMA Form 5-521) filled out (for new appointees)? We live in rural NJ and do not have a local police dept. My son went to the closest state police barracks and they said the request must be made to through state headquarters. We inquired there, but they won't do the check unless he is fingerprinted!

I would suggest calling your admissions officer. If I'm not mistaken, in the booklet they sent with the appointment, it says to let them know if you have trouble, and they can help you get your records. Good luck.

I'm not sure if this helps you, but in NC the police can only check arrest and outstanding warrant records. My son did this through through the main Criminal Investigative Division office. The local police station would not do it. The criminal record check was done through the county courthouse offices. No fingerprints were required; just name, address and SSN etc.

For the Naval Academy, I didn't have trouble, but had to go lots of places: local police, local sheriff, school police officer, state highway patrol, and another state office (it was some financial office, because that's where traffic tickets were passed through...pay the fine, get it?)

I had to do everything in person, though, and I agree, that was a big of a pain.
