Difficulty level?

Hi,
In a few months I will be attending Babson college and I just came across many posts that stated the average GPA at babson is 2.7-3.0 and that getting higher than an 3.3 is really hard. is this true? have I signed up to an extremely tough school that will crush my gpa, i am hoping to transfer after a year. I was wondering how you felt the work load/ difficulty compare to a normal college and also a school like Phillips Exeter Academy, Phillips Andover, Deerfield? is much greater or were the posts simply exaggerating?

thanks

2.8 is the average freshman GPA. It is hard to receive a 3.3+ for the first semester, but it gets easier after that first semester. I’d say it is worth coming to check out, it is a great school and believe I made the right choice.

Based on the experience of my D and her friends, if you did well in your prep high school, and you continue to study like you did in your rigorous high school classes, you should be able to attain a 3.3 plus. My D has a 3.9 and most of her friends have over a 3.3 gpa.

The students that are getting 2.8 are not putting in their time studying. I hate to generalize, but some examples might be international and US students that are partying too much, some athletes that are not putting in the time, and some are not studying effectively. The most difficult class my D said is Calculus. If you did not take it in high school it is challenging, because they move through the material quickly in one semester that would have been covered in a year of high school. There is also a group of students who also know that average gpa is not that high, so they readily accept that it is okay to get less than a 3.0, and they get their parents to believe they cannot achieve higher grades.

You will do great if you have good study habits, attend class, and pay attention in class. My D said she was shocked how many students are surfing the net while they are in class, not effective at studying and do not use good time management skills. These are smart kids that are not realizing their potential.

I think she is very busy, and she does believe she has more homework than some of her peers at other competitive schools, but it is not like she is overworked. My D is very social and an athlete. She is not a introverted nerd, and she has done very well. Time management, attending and paying attention in class, and effective study habits are very important to earning good grades.
