Difficulty of actual AP Calculus AB Exam compared to Review Book practice exams

My teacher says Princeton Review is easier, and that Barrons is harder. Does anyone have any input or personal experience? Where did you find the best practice which resembled the true difficulty of the AP Test? You can mention any review book. Much appreciated! Also if you have any tips or advice in scoring well that would be greatly appreciated as well!

I thought Barrons MC were quite accurate, but for practice FRQ’s use the released ones on AP central. For some reason neither the PR nor Barrons authors seem to realize the fact that 4 of the 6 questions are basically always the same format with different numbers.

Struggled with AB my entire senior year, as in I studied alot and never got better than a B. Was on pace for like a 3-4 based on my class performance. Here is how I kicked that exams ass and got a 5.

Actually, the study method I discovered while studying for the AP exam is what I use in college and got me a 4.0 in every class last semester. Here’s what I did.

Our teacher gave us a packet of every free response question since 2000 or whatever, a **** ton of practice questions, etc. Every morning before school I would do six problems. That’s it. I would do the problems without looking at my notes, obviously at first I had to look back at my notes. However, as the days went by I could do more and more of the six problems of the top of my head. I remember the week leading up to the exam, I could answer all the questions like clockwork without looking at my notes. Never used a prep book.

So, make yourself a packet of questions, and do six every morning for the month leading up to the exam. this will only work if you don’t look at your notes prior to doing the question, but rather look at them after you have attempted it and don’t know what your doing. Eventually, you will be able to answer every type of question they can throw at you.

@wynter: Yea, I’ve notcied that they still have 3 calculator and 3 non-calc when it’s actually 2 calc 4 non-calculator. Thanks for your insight!

@goldenglove: Thank you a million times over. That is really good advice. Will do!

Princeton Review tests are easier? Seriously? I got 34/45 on my last practice test…I’m really shooting for a 5.
