I've heard that biology is one of the hardest majors at Cornell in terms of workload; how about animal science? Do you know the average GPA of bio majors vs. animal science majors? Thanks!

I am only a freshman, so I can't say much about upper-level classes, but I think that freshman AnScis have it as hard or harder than Bio majors. Both majors generaly take Intro Bio, Intro Chem, and a writing class. Bio majors usually take a math class as well, but AnScis are required to take Intro AnSci, which is not an easy course (mean grade was B-), with some people taking this in addition to a math course.

In general, I think that Bio majors have more difficult upper-level courses, but the pre-med/pre-vet animal science majors can take an equally difficult courseload, depending on the courses they choose to study. Actually, this question is difficult to answer because there are many different animal science "pathways" that one can choose after freshman year, each with a varying degree of difficulty.

I am interested in the pre-vet route, but I'm not sure exactly what I want to study within animal science or biology.

I'm a bio major and I personally don't think the upper division bio courses (with the exception of genetics) are any harder than intro bio. Most are probably easier.

This is the Pre-Vet pathway at Cornell:

There are a lot of science courses (obviously). Science courses are never "easy," even if you have an apptituide for that sort of work. I"m taking three science courses this semester, and the workload is tough, but it's what I have to do to get all the pre-vet requirements in and still be able to get a well-rounded courseload for next year.
