Difficulty of Engineering

How bad is it really? How many hours are spent on HW?

for the intro math courses, you can easily spend 1 hr on 1 problem, so i’d say 10 hrs+/wk for math.
engin 101 sometimes you get no hw on 1 week, but sometimes assignmnts take 5 hrs~6 hrs on avg to finish.
It’s all about efficiency, so you might learn a lot faster and spend less time.

and how easy is it to transfer from engineering to ross after the first year?

hm intro courses are curved, so i think they’re slightly harder because you’ll likely to have a lower gpa in engineering than lsa kids.

I would imagine kids in engineering with GPAs lower than kids in LSA will get into Ross.

most people in engineering don’t apply to ross`~

Most people in LSA don’t apply to Ross either lol

fdsfdgsfdgsfdgsdfgdfgdsfgsdf

lol thats true =p

I posted in another thread…

Through my first semester, on my 3 main classes I spent about this much time out of class:

Math: 80 hrs (I should have spent more time here)
Orgo: 100 hrs
Engr101: 150 hrs (I should have spent less time here)

Ouch, is 101 really that hard? And what math class are you talking about? I was thinking of taking Calc II (Honors or applied honors or maybe regular idk =/) with Eng 101 but maybe this is a bad idea?

I had no programming experience going into 101, and a lot of that time was spent doing a really ineffective job of debugging.

Math was 156 (by the way, you can’t take 186 in the fall). I spent very little time studying outside of doing homework, and could have done better if I had spent some time on that.

dangg 150 hrs on 101? i spent 15 hrs on project 6,which is like the hardest of all for this semester, and i thought it was too much…
but yeah, 101 is not hard, it’s easy to get A- or above if you give some efforts

My professor told me that our projects were harder than they normally are. (I think our tests were easier to compensate).

It is highly dependent on which engineering track you choose. Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering will be very difficult, while Industrial Operations Engineering (IOE, IOEasy, In&OutEasy) will not be too hard. However, as a freshman, everyone takes roughly the same courses and, for the average person, they are tough (curved to a B-/C+ = 2.7/2.3).
