Difficulty of High School

How much of a role does the strength of your high school play in college admissions? Obviously a person with a 4.0 will not be exactly equal to someone else at a different school with a 4.0.

What determines whether a school is difficult?

I do not know whether my school would me considered a hard school. We have an API score of ~800. California state rank of 9/10. However we barely send any people to competitive schools, (last year had 2 UCB, 5 UCLA, 1 WUSTL) out of 500+ students. I always thought my school was rather easy because I have a rather high GPA and low SAT, but after doing some research our API score is pretty strong compared to other schools around here.

Anyone got any ideas?

difficulty/competitiveness = ..........

avg. SAT/ACT score
% of students going to a 4 yr. college or uni.

of AP classes ( not always a good indicator though)

% of students going to ivies and Top tier school

these are just a few. also, your school must be pretty good if it is ranked 9/10....that's almost perfect.

ap scores...
