I’m considering taking the following AP’s throughout the rest of my high school career, and wanted to know how difficult they were for you if you’ve taken any of them (I know this varies by school; it’s just to have an idea):
AP English Language and Composition
AP English Literature and Composition
AP United States History
AP Psychology
AP French
AP Statistics
AP Biology
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
AP Physics C: Mechanics
AP Environmental Science
I’ve only taken 4 of the ones mentioned. AP Biology was not that hard. If you put in some good study time before tests, and make sure you have an understanding of the general concepts, you should be fine. APUSH is pretty tough. There is just so much stuff you have to know, and the long essays are brutal. Take good notes in class, and read the textbook. I don’t like this class because I study hard and still fail some of the quizzes. :(( AP Language was easy for me. It’s kind of hard to study for this course, just practice writing essays, and pay attention to time when taking practice tests. It was a pretty rushed exam for me. AP Literature was slightly harder than Lang for me, I don’t really know why. But take good annotations, and practice, practice, practice writing thematic essays! Good luck!
(FWIW, I’ve taken the Government, Econ, Bio, Euro, Lang, and Calc AB AP’s so far. This year I’m taking Lit, Physics 1, Chem, APUSH, and Calc BC.)
Stats: 7. I thought it was kind of hard, harder than what most people say anyway. People seem to underestimate it but I dont think it should be labeled as an easy A just because it is an elective AP class. The math is pretty simple but the concepts are sort of hard to understand. It was challenging, but still fun.
Lang: I am hesitant to rate it because this class varies so much. If youre wondering about the AP exam though, the multiple choice section is somewhat similar to the SAT critical reading section, just a bit harder.
Biology: 5. I studied so much for SAT Biology that I dont have to study as hard for my AP class. It doesnt have as much memorization as people assume though.
I never took APUSH but I have heard from my friends that it is hard. So much to know. At my school, people in regular or honors history learn US history in junior and senior year and even that seems like a lot sometimes. But APUSH is for one school year so…
Depends on your teacher but I’ll give you my experience
10 being the hardest
AP English Language and Composition (2/10)
AP United States History (3/10)
AP Psychology (1/10)
AP Statistics (5/10)
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism (10/10)
AP Physics C: Mechanics (9/10)
I think you should really find people at your school who have taken these classes before. The nationwide curriculum may be the same, but test difficulty, homework load, and class expectations vary from teacher to teacher.
