I'm wondering if it is more difficult to transfer into Exeter as a Sophomore than it is to be admitted as a Freshman. A friend of my son's seems to think the chances are much better as a transfer. I would think the opposite, but would love some input. Thanks!

It's about the same. however, the higher the grade, the less likely a school is to take a chance on a student academically.

From what I hear... the first year alone tells you alot about the student if they have never boarded. So basically, Exeter might actually want to take you more... Less of a gamble.

actually if your son plans on entering exeter next year as a sophomore, there are low chances of him getting in. This year, the freshmen class has over 30 more students than they planned on accepting so next year, a much smaller number of lowers than usual will be accepted.

HI, I was planning on applying to Phillips Andover for my junior year. I've read that it is a very competitive school with a low acceptance rate and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are of getting in.
I'm a straight A student (well, I got one B+ in Spanish freshman year) and I'm taking one AP course and another Honors course.
I'm involved in Green Club, Debate, and French club
I participate in service projects year round (Homeless shelters, soup kitchens etc.)
I have excellent teacher recommmendations.
I just took the SSATs and I haven't recieved my scores, but I think I did well.

So, any thoughts on my chances of getting in?
Or any alternative boarding schools I should think of applying to?

You should definitely apply to 2 maybe 3 more schools if you really want to go to boarding school.

Especially since your applying junior year. Or will you consider repeating 10th grade?

I don't think I would repeat the 10th grade, so I guess I will apply to more boarding schools. I just can't think of one that I have a good chance to get into. Can anyone offer any matches please?

We need your SSAT scores. You could have all 100s at your school and get something very low on your SSAT.

Do not bank on getting in Andover. I'm banking on getting into one of the 5 schools that I considered "competitive"(Exeter, Andover, SPS, Deerfield and Choate). I hear that most schools accept 10-25 incoming juniors with a 15-20% acceptance rate.
