How difficult is it to transfer to MIT? I probably wont get accepted so I'm trying to figure out what my chances will be like if I decide to apply again next year.

Extremely difficult to transfer.

Like, you can count the number of successful transfers each year on both hands and still have many fingers left over :)

it's a lot harder to get in transfer wise. they only look at what you've done in college and very, very few transfers get in. I hear the number is less than 10.

I think it was 4 last year

It was seven.

hey guys, is one's high school transcript a major factor in the admission process for transfer. if one has over one year of college work?

Are SAT 2s really important? What are the chances for International Students?

:(.... no mit for me

I'm applying as a transfer...I didn't get in last year as a freshman and this year probably won't be any different...

where are you transferring from adjlad?

i dont know yet. I'm still a high school senior and my chances of getting into MIT are slim and none so I was trying to garner up some hope for next year, hope that was promptly destroyed by LSA and all the other CCers that posted.

Sorry, adjlad, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. :(

I just wanted to be direct in that the undergrad transfer process at MIT is extremely selective and statistically seems quite brutal. I try not to sugar-coat things when they're like this - the facts are important.

:)

LSA

adjlad-

It can't hurt to try, ya know? I'm only losing $65 for the application and I feel that the pros far outweigh the cons...in fact, I can't think of any cons. I say go for it if need be.

I think you shouldnt concentrate all your hopes on one school. it's never worth that much. there are so many great schools out there. you'd miss out on a lot of great opportunities. If you really want to transfer next year, do all you can in whatever college you go to, get involved with research, get good grades, etc etc, and you never know.

Hey, wait a minute, why do so many guys want to go to MIT?

Is it because of the great jobs that can come from the school or just that people are getting more interested in Math, science and Engineering???

For me, personally, it's the latter. I'm not happy here at a liberal arts school. Given my interests and goals, MIT would be a better match.

yeah ur right 3.14.

Sorry, what liberal Arts College (LAC) and what were ur STATS?

Why didn't you apply to MIT in the first place, or did you?

Haverford College in PA. I applied EA to MIT as a freshman applicant but was deferred then subsequently rejected...As for posting stats, I'd rather not do so...no offense.

no prob 3.14

How Great is Haverford?

However, keep doing great in your college, ND WHO KNOW'S ? you might just get so recognized and find urself in some great graduate schl!

Good luck!

Thanks.
