Difficulty of Transferring

Is it just as difficult to get in to colleges as a transfer as it was for freshman admissions? The acceptance rates are lower, but I am assuming the applicant pool is not as strong as the freshman one.

Well, that's tough question to answer. The acceptance rates for transfers are often smaller, but the applicant pools are smaller as well.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that the pools are weaker. Many people who are successful in transferring to top-tier colleges have college GPAs of 3.6 and up, which is most certainly not weak. You will find, however, that many of these people were mediocre or even poor students and highschool and never would have been accepted as freshmen.

Adcoms look for different things when evaluating transfer applications. Obviously a strong GPA is important, as well as a challenging course-load and recommendations. But what can really make or break an application is the essay. What the adcoms really want to see are clear and convincing reasons as to why ___ school suits you better than your current institution. Use your essay to do this. This part is NOT to be half-assed.

I hoped this helped.
