thanks

To get in not sure…

But my friend tells me that 15% gets of the students get weeded out every year.

Easy to get in with TAG. 3.0 GPA 1st year of bio and chem done.

I would say UCI has the toughest LOWER-division curriculum (curriculum not competition). They have to take straight 6 quarters of bio (93, 94, 100L, 97, 98, 99) and g-chem + o-chem during their first two years. If you compare it to the curriculum at the other UC’s it is way less.

Lower Division bio (first 2 years)

UCSD - BILD 1 and 3 (2 quarters)
UCLA - Life Sci 1, Life Sci 2, Life Sci 3, Life Sci 4 (4 quarters)
UCB - BIOL 1A , BIOL 1B (2 semesters)

It kinda sux to transfer to UCI too if your school does not offer equivalent courses to bio 97,98,99 (required for UD bio classes). This means when you transfer you have to start at a sophomore level and will probably take you 5 years to finish your degree unless you take those classes the summer before you transfer to UCI.

Thanks mates. Would I be competitive if I only completed 1 year of bio and the math requirement the spring quarter before I transfer?

you should really get the chem done, THis is off their web site:

Have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0
Complete one year of general chemistry with laboratory with a B or better in both semesters
Complete one year of general biology with laboratory equivalent to UC Irvine’s BIO SCI 93, 94, and 100 lab with a grade of C of better

[2009 Summary of UCI Selection Requirements for California Community College Transfer Applicants](http://www.admissions.uci.edu/admissions_info/transfer_admission/ccc_selection/ccc_selection_2009.html)

Thanks, I’ve seen something similar to that. Do you mean also 1 year of chem in addition to the bio, or just 1 year of chem over the bio? I know I should get as much done as possible, but I’m going to be starting my third year of CC in fall, and I don’t plan on staying another year. So I want to finish what I can and hopefully get in with that.

both chem and bio.

Thanks, any idea how much of a chance I would have with only 1 completed?

Chances are slim with no g-chem. I advise taking 1st year of bio and chem. Even if you do get in with 1 year of bio, you will be stuck. Bio 98 and 99 require at least 1st quarter/semester of O-chem and with no chemistry done at all that is an extra year + 1 quarter just so you can take those classes. And also you can’t take the upper division classes until you finish 98 and 99 because they are pre-reqs for all of them. So you would be like a freshman who has finished their bio and will take you an extra 4 years to finish.

Get use to taking at least 2 science classes + electives a semester too. That is the normal schedule for a typically bio major

And may I ask why the sudden change to bio? If you are doing it just to go to med school, it is not worth it. Only do it if you enjoy the subject. You can be get into med school as any major as long as you finish your pre-reqs. If you think the lower-division bio classes are hard than don’t bother with the upper division bio classes. Choose a major you enjoy and grind through those pre-reqs.

A lot say it’s not worth it to change your major to bio or whatever, but I think that the amount of science classes you get to take helps pad up your BCMP GPA. It just depends on how hard you wanna work.

Well, it’s not actually the biology major, its the pharmaceuticals major that I want to get into.

This thread is scaring me…do I have like no chance of getting in?

I noticed this when I was on assist.org. UCI has a lot of bio classes that they don’t offer at my CC. So how do I transfer then???

So far I have taken 2 semesters of Gen. Chem+Lab. I got a C+ 1st semester and an A 2nd semester. Got a C in lab both times though :(. Does that mean I’m ineligible to apply to UCI? I have also taken 1 semester of Gen Bio, got an A. Genetics, got an A. By this time next year I will have done 2 semesters of O-Chem+lab, 1 semester of Physics, and 1 semester of Calculus. I will definitely have over 60 credits but all those Bio classes are scaring me.
