University of Cincinnati has a digital design program as part of their DAAP school that teaches this.

Taxguy, was just at RIT with my d where it looks like a good fit (New Media Design). Was digging around on the web, and came across your post on WetCanvas about your d choosing Cincinnati. I’m really curious about your d’s experience, as our d seem very similar (Jewish too!). I tried unsuccessfully to PM you on WetCanvas, came over to CC to check out UC, and there you were! Any insight into the process would be most appreciated. How do her job prospects look?

I was very impressed with both RIT and University of Cincinnati’s programs. However, RIT’s program contains an optional coop while Cincinnati’s coop is mandatory and built into the program. This was one reason that we chose Cincinnati.

Frankly, both schools don’t have a large Jewish population; however, RIT is especially spartan with regard to this. At least UC has a big Hillel right across the street.

As for Job prospects, if your daughter becomes very good at development and design of web sites, job prospects as noted in this thread are very good. However, both programs are VERY tough and demanding. Not only must she learn the principles of design, but she has to become a good developer. This means that she will really need to understand computer skills especially HTML and Flash 3, and maybe even 3d software very well. She should also take some programming courses in C++.

Thanks so much for the info. She’s a junior, so we’re going to do some additional homework. Good luck to your daughter.

HMSmom, I should also note that University of Cincinnati is a state school vs. RIT,which is a private school. As such, UC tends to be a bit cheaper assuming no major scholarship offers.

I also didn’t like the extreme cold of Rochester, but I did like RIT very much. You really need to check out both schools. You get a very different feel from both of them.
