Is anybody in the Digital Media Design program in SEAS? Is it considered as rigorous as other engineering/science majors or is it more "soft"? Also, are transfer/major change procedures different because we applied directly for the DMD program? This was definitely my first choice of programs at Penn, but if I find out that it's not for me would I be able to switch my major to something else within SEAS such as computer science?

Switching majors usually isn’t too difficult besides fulfilling requirements. Technically you’re not restricted (not sure for SEAS but its usually the case) until second year onwards. You can’t actually declare a major first year anyways, academic advisors simply help you plan based on your current goals. As for rigor, not sure but each school has their own gen ed requirements and engineering usually is more quant heavy so you’ll end up with probably an extra semester of calculus iirc.

Digital Media Design isn’t a cakewalk, but I would say it’s easier than computer science. Fine Arts courses are INCREDIBLY time-consuming though…keep that in mind.

for those of you who got into the program what do you suggest to future applicants to put in their portfolio or to get ready in general?
