Hi I got into Johns Hopkins (not athletically recruited).

I love tennis, I play varsity in high school, but I am not good enough to get recruited.

Since I already got in JHU and JHU is Division 3, can I just walk on the team? Do I still have to try out? How does it work if I still want to play tennis competitively in college?

Our son is in a similar situation. He has been recruited at many D3 schools for tennis, but probably can’t play at the top 10-20 D3 programs. JHU is in that top group. I don’t know if walking on is an option, but if you haven’t already, check JHU out on tennisrecruiting.net to see what kind of players they attract. You’ll see it is mainly 3 and 4 star players (3 star = top 400, and 4 star = top 200 players nationally). JHU does have a USTA Tennis on Campus Club program which means the club program would travel and compete. Hope this helps. We will be watching the post for other responses.

Hi! I go to Hopkins. I don’t play a sport here but I do know a few of the girls on the tennis team. Most of them were recruited but I do know one who was a walk on. She made the team (which is about 14) and now plays varsity tennis. I don’t know how likely that is to happen but it does.

You should try emailing the coach and talking to them about trying out for the team
