I've spoken to a couple of friends who have run through the college admissions process before and they said that the emphaisis Im generally putting on SAT scores is in excess and doesn't really make much of a difference.

He had a score of 1900 (m: 750 cr: 450 w: 500) and got into Cornel, Upenn, and is currently in RPI, (he's a minority) Great GPA, about two points higher than mine on the 100 scale, and great extracurriculars (similar to mine).

My current composite score is

M 650
CR 600
W 690
- 1940.

I've taken the SATS before in June and have gotten an 1810 (m610 cr600 w600)

My dilema is that I want to break 2000 and get a better CR reading score, however I want to know if its well worth doing so. I mean, if I have near 91 GPA and over 800 hours of community services and alright extracurriculars, then would really matter?

I want to apply to Cornel, NYU, BU, and maybe RPI. The other schools I am applying to I know will take me with what I have.

Should I retake my SAT's in December? Would it be bad to rush deliver a third set of scores to colleges? Are they going to be annoyed by it? Is it worth it at all retaking the SATs?

I think its has alot to do with your confidence. In december if you really believe you'll do better then go for it.
However if you have not been doing practice problems lately and really perfecting your CR skill then no would be the answer.

To be honest with you, I have been doing practice problems with critical reading the past but my fault is that I never really pressured time upon myself. Time really killed me on this test the second time. At one CR section, I hit the back page when time was called, and on other sections I' had to rush through questions when there wasn't much time. At home I've gotten 640-680 on practice tests from the Collegeboard book. I'm confident I can do a lot better in CR and in Math, but time is the key issue which I need to work on.

also, don't skimp on the practice.
i didn't study at all prior to this past october exam, and it was my second taking. i dropped 140 points... 200 points without the essay weighting (though i did increase my 6 essay to a 9, :| ).

If you'd like to apply to the likes of UPenn, Cornell, and others, you'll want to raise those SAT scores a tad. Theyre not bad scores at the moment...they're solid and respectable. But you dont have amazing scores in W or M that make up for a 600 in CR. The trick is to read...I've never studied once for either W or CR on the SAT and I did well in both sections. I read the NYTimes editorials everyday, and I try to read lots of interesting books. Its very hard to improve a score through just studying some words...and its also extremely hard to train yourself to do better on passages. You did a lot worse on your previous SATs, so I dont know if you'd jump that much. You have 60points to go. The truth is that your SAT scores arent bad at the moment, and I'd recommend that you apply wherever you want. I dont think colleges would be annoyed by a 3rd SAT, but the difference between a 1940,1980, or even 2000 is minimal at best. If you really think you can improve, then retake them. But dont just retake and hope for the best.
