Dilema, which will look better on transcript?

I'm planning on taking as many advanced courses I can while in HS. Doing that our normal school route for math is (for me)

8th-Algebra
9th-Geometry
10th-Algebra II
11th-PreCalc/Trig
12th-Calculus I

But my school also offers anyone who passed Algebra II to have the option of taking 5 other classes:
-Discrete Mathematics
-Intro to Statistics
-AP Statistics
-AP Computer Science

When looking at this, if a college sees that you took the 1st route, finishing off with 1 year of AP Calc, would it look better compared to that to take precalc, then take TWO AP courses AP Statistics, AP Computer Science, instead of 1, AP Calc?

So which one would look better, the Calc route or double AP route?

AP Calculus is a good thing to take if your high school offers it. I’m not so sure that two APs are always better than one. I never took stats but I would imagine calculus is a bit more difficult?

What’s the point of taking Pre-Calc if you’re not going to utilize it and take Calc. Also, if you don’t take Calc, you might forget most of its concepts in Pre-Calc by the time you take it after 1 year.

The consensus at my school is that AP Stats is a bit of a joke. Calculus is incredibly important, so I think you should take it based on that alone.

If you want another math class, I’d recommend Discrete Mathematics, because that sounds interesting if it’s somewhat advanced.

On the other hand, if you plan to pursue statistics in college, obviously you should take AP Stats in addition to AP Calc.

Either way, though, you DEFINITELY want to take calculus. I don’t think I can stress this enough.

Depends on what you want to study. Take Calc if you want to leave a science/engineering option open. However, stats is recommended for some of the social sciences and even communication.

My stat teacher always says stat is math applied to the real world whereas calc is pointless because you can just tell a computer to do the problem. Having taken calc the past year, I’m not sure I agree. ><

You could always take the other Maths at your community college.

Your stats teacher is an idiot. Has he ever heard of physics, or engineering, or ADVANCED STATISTICS?
