Dilemma--Albany v. Binghamton...

OK, so I pretty much have an issue.LOL

I have to make the choice between either SUNY Albany or SUNY Binghamton.I was accepted to many other good schools, but even with scholarships, the private universities cost way too much for me and my family right now.

My parents would rather me go to Albany because it is 2 hours closer to home and also less money.

I recieved a Presidential Scholarship from Albany, and because of that, Binghamton would be $16,000 more, which--at this moment--would leave my family with a lot more hassle and debt to pay off in the future.

At the same time, I know Bing. was VERY hard to get into this year and the fact that I made it along I am proud of.I also know it is widely respected and one of the best, if not the best in regards to academics, of all the SUNYs.I will most likely be going to grad school after the next four years because as of now my intended major is Psych and to get a good, high-paying job, you need to go to graduate school for Psych.

However, I think Albany allows more of a social life, and after going on the Accepted Students day, I thought the Psych professor was extremely cool.I also know the scholarship would help my family a lot right now.

I know I have to make my own decision on the end, but any outside opinions on this would be appreciated!

Thanks guys!

If you are planning on going for psych, just to let you know…Bing has two psych programs. You can go regular Psychology (psychology.binghamton.edu) which is what most people do and then there is Psychology ABA (icd.binghamton.edu). The ABA (applied behavioral analysis) major is one of the top programs of its kind in the country. You basically become a tutor at the on-campus Institute for Child Development which is a school for children ages 18months to 12 years old, who are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is a very demanding program but people who leave Bing with the certificate at the end, have very good chances at future careers. I know that just having been part of the program helped me get $2 extra dollars per hour on a summer job last summer. If you want to work with children this will be a great experience that you really can not get anywhere else.
