Dilemma: Calculus course

Ok, so i have a situation here. i took the calculus AB course, took the exam,i think i got a 4 or 5, and im only a junior. so next yr, im planning to take calculus BC,so i can get the ap credit if i pass the exam. is it better to take stats than to take calc bc? personally i prefer bc. and i think i can self study for stats, wat do u guys think?

er...you probably should have just taken Calc. BC this year and Then stats for next year Because Calc. BC is basically Calc AB just with some extra topics...so you'll probably be learning a lot of the same stuff.

^actually the above poster is correct! Calc BC is pretty much the same stuff with a little bit of series, polar, parametric, and vectors thrown in, so there is actually very little point to taking it.

Here's my advice: Since you already know the Calculus material very well (I'm guessing if you get a 4 or 5 you know the material well), then why not just take both Stats and BC? unless, of course you only have a choice of taking one, in that case look at the college you want to go to, and see which one they value more. I would just go with AP Stat because that way colleges won't think that you took essentially the same course twice. But again, check with your top choice college ;)

what if i pass ap stats exam by self studying?
i can only pick one,betweeen calc bc and stats, because my schedule is full.~

Hm, that is a tough one.

I took both AB and BC, but that's just the way my school operates. I really did love BC - but reviewing some of the AB material was quite boring.

However, stat was a completely different subject, and I learned loads of new stuff that was really interesting. Therefore, I'd suggest just taking stats and self-studying BC, as you know most of the course already anyway. You can just buy a study book, learn some parametrics and series stuff, and you've got it down.

yeah,but i heard stats is easy too. and plus i like the calculus class; my teacher is really funny, and i have a pretty big ego because im the only student in my entire school taking the course(im gona be mixed with the AB kids,teacher will have special lessons for me), not mentioning no student has ever taken calc bc in yrs, so i really wanna be the first.
but which one will help me more though? i think i can beat the stats exam next yr, and the class is super easy. it's not stats-exam-prep class. so its boring too.

Take stats, self study BC.

lol now im vacillating

dont take stats for granted...... its tough.

i hate when people knock ap exams... they all have their difficulties.

if you're good at calculus dont ASSUME that you will be good at stats. they're ENTIRELY different courses. stats shouldn't even be considered a math course... it uses numbers, yes.... but not like calculus.

edit: i forgot to answer your question lol.
in my opinion, take stats. it's interesting. BC is a small extension of AB, just study BC with your teacher on the side.

which one is better for college though? as in the course taken. the stats class is not an ap prep course, tho it's AP; it's one of the easiest math course in school. so it's boring and easy~ i dont see the point of taking STATS, will it look better in my transcript tho? because other than that,i dont wanna take stats =/

if you dont want to take it.... then dont take it.

its your senior year, have a blast.

What are you going to major in?

It only makes sense to take stats and self-study BC because you'd basically be learning all the same material from AB aside from a few extra topics. It would be much harder to do it the other way around.

im majoring in engineering kinds of stuff a math geek =p
i understand that BC will be easy for me this upcoming year, but stats will be a breeze too. if i take stats, it's like self-studying too,if i wanna pass the exam.
stats=boring,easy teacher
bc=funny cool teacher.

mmmm =/

you're asking for advice, but clearly your mind is made up. you obviously want to take BC even though its basically repeating a year.... if i were you i would go into calc II at a local college and take stats at school.

mm thats actually a good idea..... i 'll talk to my teacher and counselor about this.
thanks~!

yeah i kinda decided already haha, im just looking for reasons to convince me...
