I'm currently a Soph in Adv Alg w/Trig. The normal advanced math course in my school goes like this:

Geometry -> Trig -> Pre Cal -> Cal AB.

My school doesn't offer Calc BC.

I want to take both the Calc AB and BC exams. I'm not, however, allowed to take them both in the same year.

Here's my question: Should I self-study Calc AB my Junior year and not take the class my Senior year? I'd take the BC exam my Senior year, of course.

How would colleges view that decision? I'm just worried about not taking a math class in HS past Pre-Calc (not counting AP Stats my senior year).

Any and all advice is appreciated.

My school has the same progression sans any AP stats.

I’d suggest you take the AB class and self study BC material and just take the BC test. It has an AB subscore. I do not think colleges would be overly concerned with just seeing Pre-Calc and then AP Stats if they also saw that you took the AB and BC tests. Just make sure you do well on your AP tests.

I’m no expert though, halfway through my senior year and a little late to the dedicated scholar party myself.

Learn everything from the AB class perfectly, review some of the BC extras, and take the BC test. It is not too difficult to get a 5 on the BC test with high skills specific to AB work and relatively little experience with series. This is assuming, of course, that you are skilled at mathematics.

I’m relatively good at mathematics. Everyone I’ve talked to says Calc will be a breeze, so I’ll probably end up doing what you guys are suggesting. Thank you both for your input.
