Dilemma Ucb Vs Ucla Pol S

I am having a hard time deciding which school should I go. All I know is that I love UCLA but everybody I know is telling me you should go to UCB?
What do you guys think about this??

Which school is better for POL S??

forget about what people r telling you. DO what your gut says, and if i was in the fortunate position as you i would go to ucla cuz my gut would want to go to diddy reise and get some ice cream sandwhiches for a buck!

because i'm in the same boat. last tuesday i hadnt even heard from ucsd or uci! (still am pending for UCSD by the way) but on wednesday i got accepted to both uci and ucla.... for sure i do not want to go to uci when i had ucla's offer.

that weekend i was so stoked on going to ucla.. my family is full of former bruins and considering i got rejected in high school.. it made it that much more appealing. i was set on being a bruin especially because friends also got in for fall 06! i have 3 close friends there now, and a numerous amount of friends that go there and who will be going.

but my dilemmais that i was accepted to uc berkeley, and i think i could grow there much more than at ucla. i know the weather sucks, it'snot as scenic, but i love the idea of familiarizing myself with a new city and being for once on my own. but i'm torn between the two now. it is definitely one of the hardest decisions iwill have to make.

is the tiny bit of prestige that berkeley is known for worth the norcal lifestyle? i feel i would gain greater knowledge in moving to a new place, learning how to adapt but i'm a total beach bum, loving the LA-lifestyle, club going girl and family oriented too (theyre all in southern CA) that i dont know what to do. i also have a good friend going to haas now, and now i dont feel quite as intimidated in going there. but ALL my friends go to UCLA, so i have no idea what to do!!!!!!

i am a poli sci major and i would like to continue onto law school, and get my teaching credentials as well...

any advice??

i read earlier on someone else's post "follow your heart" and also another person doesnt wanna give upthe so cal lifestyle. and i feel the same way!

but if college is about learning, i think that would be ucb for me... but i dont wanna be so uncomfortable in norcal that i cant even learn anything.

sorry i'm rambling, i've had afew beers lol

ah this sucks

someone HELP

don't ask others...this is YOUR decision to make...and please dont pick a college just based on rankings...thats just lame

cja1130 , I totally understand your concerns, as I mentioned above, I have the same concerns so I just do not know what to do. It is very easy to give an advice, so I would disdain to make comments....I just want to get some idea which UC is better for POL S majors:: UCB or UCLA.

Hey guys, on the UCLA discussion thread there's a current poli sci major at ucla answering questions about the major there.

"don't ask others...this is YOUR decision to make...and please dont pick a college just based on rankings...thats just lame"

Why is picking a college based on the rankings lame? After you graduate, the only thing that matters is where you went to school. A name like Berkeley carries more weight and more envy than a degree from ucla. Sorry, but it's true.

"Hey guys, on the UCLA discussion thread there's a current poli sci major at ucla answering questions about the major there."

Which one? There are a million UCLA threads.

As I understood, UCB academically far better, and has more prestige, UCLA is more fun to attend, socially rewarding, and for me, close to my home: no need to move. However, to make an intelligent decision we, POl S majors, need to have more information. We need more DO and Dont's, so I invite everyone to actively participate on this thread in the sake of having the full picture till it is not too late.

talktell: I was commenting on UCLA and UCB they are both more or less same in terms of reputation in the US...yea if you had to pick between University of Kentucky and UCB then that would matter.

Prestige and academics aside, I hear Berkeley is still pretty much the political hub of activity they have long been known for. What better place to study political science than one of the most politically active universities in the world? Just a thought...

Good luck in your decision... =]

^^ what if he/she is a republican lol

lets just assume he/she is very liberal or a republican that enjoys being in a hostile enviornment.

I heard that CAL tends to lean to the left. Can anyone confirm this?

^^ UCLA and Cal both are very left-leaning...but I hear they both have prominent republican presence

I do not care left or right!! Which has a better program for undergrads??? That's the main question, the rest is not that important

Any new POL S majors???

Nikkei: I meant the UCLA discussion page (I don't know what to call it). Instead of clicking Transfer Students, click "CC Top Universities" and then click UCLA. Someone named UCLAri or something posted a thread called "Ask UCLAri: Political Science and East Asian Languages"
And guys, Berkeley is not nearly as political as it used to be. I'd argue that currently UCLA is more political because there's so much more activism you can do in and around Los Angeles. Just my opinion.

Even if UCB is less political than before, I'd still say that it's more political than UCLA. Too much 'niceness' around UCLA for it to be as political. i.e. Sun, fun, westwood, the So-Cal lifestyle...

I mean, let's face it, seeing bums and people at the bottom of the system everyday is gonna be more inspirational than Hollywood glam shops when it comes to political activism.
