UCSD - (Undeclared for Warren) Winter Admit 2010

vs

UCI - (Business Admin. Paul Merage) Regular Admit 2009

-Leaning towards BIO major
-UCSD TOTAL COST first year: 17k, Grants = 10k, loans = 6k
-UCI TOTAL COST first year: 25k, Grants 15.2k, Loans 9k

-UCSD, BIO is impacted, and so I'm not even sure if I can transfer to that major. Any other notable majors at UCSD?
-Although you can say that I am not even completely sure if I want to do bio major.
-I don't really want to do Business, I don't even know why I put that as my major for UCI. However, i've heard that Business at UCI is impacted, does that mean I can transfer over to BIO major easily?
-UCSD, no guarantee that I'll be dorming.
-UCI, Guaranteed dorming.
-UCI, more friends will be attending there
-UCSD, nicer location, I've wanted to attend UCSD since freshman year just b/c.
-UCSD has far more research/internship/job opportunities for bio/premed majors.

-Please offer unbiased opinions, although this is the UCSD thread area.

-I do not have that STRONG of a study ethic.

UC GPA: 4.0
SAT I: 1950, SAT II's: 680 MATH IIC, 660 BIO (E)
AP TESTS TAKEN: AP LANG (3), AP STATISTICS EXPECTED (4 or 5) AP LITERATURE EXPECTED (3-4).

Whoops, I had copy & pasted from UCSD area… no unbiased opinions, although this is the UCI thread area.

Unless your dead set on going to UCSD, I would go with UCI since you can start in the fall. And you really shouldn’t have a problem changing to a Bio Major…Might be able to do it right at orientation or through myadmissions.
And about the research opportunities, UCI has an amazing opportunity called Bio 199. Can find information about the professors looking for Bio 199 students on the Bio Sci Website, about 100 professors listed I think. Most people start 199 in junior but you can start in Soph if you are a go getter. I am starting research this quarter(not bio 199 but similar) and I am a freshman.

Hmm thanks tatertots.

Everything just seems to be leaning towards UCI… even the financial awards…

Whether you go to UC Irvine or UC San Diego, the above will kick your ass if you intend to pursue a degree in biology because the competition is fierce within both universities.

any more opinions?

Go to where its cheaper for you. Friend came here b/c he got more FA.

-UCI, Guaranteed dorming. *Well why would you give this up ?
-UCI, more friends will be attending there *Yay!
-UCSD, nicer location, I’ve wanted to attend UCSD since freshman year just b/c.
** If so, why the changing opinions ?
-UCSD has far more research/internship/job opportunities for bio/premed majors.
** I don’t think that this is necessarily true.

UCI has research/internships/job opportunites, you just have to know where to ask. We also have job fairs every so often.

It doesn’t matter where you go–if you don’t have good study skills you will get your ass kicked.

Well, I’m receiving around 15k in grants + 8k loans from UCI, while 10k grants and 7k loans from UCSD since I’m a winter admit. My EFC was 1538.

I really want to dorm, I don’t want to go through the risk of not being to have a dorm and live off-campus. Some say that it is not that bad, but to me it seems so.

I second BirdKiller’s statement.

You are going to college. Get a study ethic haha.

Who ever said I didn’t have a study ethic? I just said, I didn’t have THAT STRONG of a study ethic.
